Elizabeth M. Cooper

 

Elizabeth M. Cooper, 61, of Bayonne, died Sunday June 10 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Ms. Cooper was employed by Depository Trust and Clearing in New York City. Born in Bayonne, she lived most of her life in Jersey City before returning to Bayonne several years ago. Surviving are her sister, Florence B. Levine and her husband Richard of Ocean Grove and her brother Ralph R. Cooper and wife Evelyn of Rancho Cucamonga, California. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 25th, 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Avenue C & West 30th Street, Bayonne. 


Helen Fehrs

Helen Fehrs (nee Little), age 93, passed away on June 12, 2012 in Ocean Grove, NJ. Helen, born September 21, 1918 in Manhattan, NY, was a first generation American; her parents William Glover and Lititia Little emigrated from Ireland. Her brother, Harry, sister Letitia, and stepmother Betty preceded Helen in death. Helen met her future husband, Herman Fehrs, at Ebinger’s Bakery in Brooklyn where they both worked at the time. After 43 wonderful years of marriage, Herman died in 1986. Overcoming her loss, Helen continued to pursue the activities she and Herman had enjoyed including travel, bowling, and entertaining family and friends. Helen was an active member of the United Methodist Church for most of her life participating in the choir and Women’s Circle in the communities where she lived including Roosevelt, NY, Hillsdale, NJ and Toms River, NJ. Her skill as a homemaker led her to a second career as a Home Health Aide after her children were grown. Her family lovingly recalls Helen’s enthusiastic spirit, her sharp wit and ingenuity, her love of music and beautiful singing voice, her generous nature and her devotion to her family. Helen is survived by her three children: daughter, Janet and her partner Tom Patterson of Cedar Mountain, NC; daughter, Barbara and her husband James Piccarello of Red Bank, NJ; and son, Donald his wife Maureen and their daughter Elaine Bridget, Helen’s beloved granddaughter, of Michigan City, IN. Additional family includes two nephews and a niece. The family gratefully acknowledges the care Helen received from the staff of both Francis Asbury Manor and Manor By The Sea in Ocean Grove. 


Carrie E. DePree

 

Carrie E. DePree, 98. of Lakewood, NJ died Monday, May 21 at Harrogate Health Care Center, Lakewood.  Mrs. DePree  and her late husband Richard were the proprietors of the Durnleigh Hotel in Ocean Grove before retiring.  She was active in the Choir at the Central Reformed Church in Paterson and later she was in the choir at Harrogate where she was also part of the crafts group.  Mrs. DePree was active in the women’s circle at the Toms River United Methodist Church and was a member of the Grand Avenue Reformed Church, Asbury Park.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she was well loved by the staff at Harrogate.  Born in Paterson, she lived there before moving to Ocean Grove and then to Harrogate in 1988.  She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters Elaine J. Furbeck and her husband Richard of Ocean Grove and Reading, PA and Carol L. Suter and her husband John of Leonia, her grandchildren, Carolyn J. Sweeton and her husband George, Richard J. Furbeck and his wife Amanda, David J. Suter and his wife Julie, Steven C. Suter and his wife Kate Odell, and Kathryn E. Suter as well as her great grandchildren, Samuel, Jonathan and Kayla Sweeton, Tatum Furbeck, Greta Suter, Riley and Krista.  A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 noon at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls and a memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, 54 Pitman Avenue, Ocean Grove, NJ 07756 would be appreciated.


Anne Buragas

 

Anne Buragas, 81, of Brick, formerly of Hazlet, died Friday May 11 at Manor by the Sea, Ocean Grove.  She was a homemaker.  Born in Ocean City, she lived in Hazlet for many years before moving to Brick.  She was predeceased by her husband Jerome in 2005.  Surviving are her two daughters, Mary Jo Martinez and her husband, David of Brick Township and Carol Brugger of Neptune City.  A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday May 15 at Seaside Cemetery in Paloma, NJ.  


John H. Henry, Sr

 

John H. Henry, 90, of Ocean Grove, died Thursday April 26 at home.  He was a personnel manager for M&M Mars, Inc., in Hackettstown for 30 years before retiring in 1984.  Mr. Henry was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.  Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he lived in Hackettstown and Brooksville, Florida before moving to Ocean Grove.  He was predeceased by his wife, Ida R. Henry in 1991.  Surviving are three sons, John H. Henry, Jr., of Ocean Grove, David B. Henry  of Upper Black Eddy, PA and Robert A. Henry of Easton, PA, one daughter,Linda C. “Lynn” Carol of Upper Black Eddy, PA, a brother, Paul Henry of Hickory, NC, a sister Ruth Steiner and her husband Paul of Ft. Wayne, Ind. and two grandchildren, Ellen I Henry and Benjamin D. Henry.  Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home. 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with interment following at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to the VNA of Central Jersey, would be appreciated.


Loretta C. Beyer

 

Loretta Wade Beyer 107, of Neptune died Tuesday April 10, 2012 at King Manor Care Center, Neptune.  She worked as a health care provider before retiring.  Mrs. Beyer was born on July 8, 1904 in Milburn, NJ.  She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Beyer in 1954.  Surviving are her daughter Hope Brunner of Edison, her son Rodger Beyer of Spring Lake, 7 grandchildren, Linda Capizzi, Donna Brunner, Judy Stevens, James Beyer, John Beyer, Scott Beyer and Kathy DiBenedetto and 11 great grand children.  Relatives and friends may call on Saturday April 14 from 1:00 PM until a memorial service beginning at 2:00 at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association 54 Pitman Avenue, would be appreciated.

Ruth A. Dellett Catley, 90, of Ocean Grove, joined her beloved husband of 57 years, Albert E. Catley, at Heavens Gate on April 19, 2012.  Also waiting to greet her were her parents, Clarence and Lottie Dellett, her brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Norman, Sonny and Harold and her sister, Helen.  Ruth worked for the Township of Neptune in her early years as a crossing guard, and later as a bus driver.  She is survived by her daughter Pam and her husband Chet Moreski of Ocean Grove, six grandchildren, Pam Rottkamp and her husband Jim of CT, Paul Gaffney and his wife, Brenda of Albany, NY, Missy Kelly and her husband Todd of Neptune, Cord, Andrew, and Brandon Moreski of Ocean Grove, 7 great grandchildren, Caila Hemming, Corey, Sadie and Ella Gaffney, Julia and Will Rottkamp and Keira Kelly and one great great grandson, Rhody Hemming.  Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with interment following at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724 or online at www.monmouthcountyspca.org would be appreciated.


Delphine R. Burnham

 

Delphine Robson Burnham, of Ocean Township, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at home. She was the youngest of nine children.  Her family lived in North Plainfield and summered in Ocean Grove for many years, then moved to the shore area permanently. In addition to being an exceptional church pianist and organist, she was the co-owner/manager of the Ocean Manor in Ocean Grove and more recently was a sales agent at Ocean Grove Realty. She was predeceased by her husband, John H. Burnham and is survived by her son, John D. Burnham, her sister, Grace Mollan, and numerous nieces and nephews.  A private graveside service was held at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.


John Wilson Kennette

 
John Wilson Kennette (Jack) of Ocean Grove, NJ died April 10, 2012 at the St. Barnabas Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Long Branch. 
Jack graduated from Plainfield High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Philadelphia Textile Institute and a Masters Degree from American University in Washington D.C.  He worked for Air Reduction and then for Johnson and Johnson and was issued thirteen patents during his career as a research chemist. He was born in Mooresville, NC., and his family moved to Ridley Park, PA and then Plainfield, NJ.  With his wife and children he lived in Hillsborough, NJ 40 years spending summers in the tent community of Ocean Grove.  The family bought their home in Ocean Grove in 1999.  He spent 15 winters in Longboat Key, FL.  Being warm was a high priority for him. He was predeceased by his parents Heath and Catherine Kennette and brother Richard Kennette.  Jack is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Phyllis Brundige Kennette, by his sons, Thomas and his wife Gail of Robinsville, NJ, David of Hillsborough, NJ, J. Christopher and his wife Kathy of Whitehouse, NJ and daughter Carol Geiss and her husband Griff of Cincinnati; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sisters Carrol Davis and Molly Cosby both of Matthews, NC.  Jack loved the Lord and believed strongly in the power of prayer.  He was a member of the United Reformed Church in Somerville, NJ where a memorial service will be held on April 21, 2012 at 1:00pm.

Helen A. Lux

 

Helen A. Lux, formerly of Teaneck, passed away peacefully at Jersey Shore Center in Eatontown.  She was 100. Born on May 21, 1911 in New York City, she lived in Teaneck for over 60 years before moving to Eatontown in 2003.She worked as a Senior Records Clerk for NJ Bell in the Accounting Department’s Investigations Unit for 17 years before retiring in 1976. She was a longtime member of St. Anastasia’s Church in Teaneck where she was a member of the Altar and Scapular Society. She enjoyed bingo at the Jersey Shore Center where she received wonderful care from the nursing staff. She was predeceased by her husband J. Walter, her daughter Patricia Albert, her sister Rose Hennessy, and her brothers James, Joseph and John Martino. Survivors include two sons; Rev. Joseph Lux, S.J. of Buffalo, NY and Frank J. Lux, Esq. and his wife MaryAnn of Neptune, one daughter Joan Fitzgerald and her husband William of Howell, one son in law William Albert of Lakewood, and one nephew Robert Hennessy of NY, NY.  She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren Michael Albert, Dr. Ellen Bahtiarian, Kathleen Day, Kim Connelley, Noreen DeMarinis and William Fitzgerald and her 12 great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-5pm at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Ave., Ocean Grove.  A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10am at St. Anastasia’s Church in Teaneck. (everyone will meet directly at church)  Interment Madonna Cemetery, Ft. Lee.


Rose L. Norris

 

Rose L. Norris, 90, of Manasquan, died Friday April 6 at Claremont Center, Point Pleasant.  Rose was a seamstress for Roxanne Swimsuits before retiring.  Born in Neptune, she lived there until moving to Manasquan. She waspredeceased by her husband George J. Norris, Sr., in 1995.  Surviving are her daughter, Cindy Nielebock of Brick, her son George J. Norris, Jr., of New York, her sister Celeste DeCapua and her husband Steve of Neptune and her grand daughter, Diane Gulman and her husband David of Cranford.  Relativesandfriends may call on Tuesday April 10 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM with a funeral service beginning at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.  


Claire E. Hennig

Claire Elizabeth MacNee Hennig, of Ocean Grove passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday March 10, 2012.  Mrs. Hennig was born and raised in  Newark and attended Saint Elizabeth College and graduated with numerous awards for design from the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York City.  She was a professional designer, interior decorator, she loved to cook and was an expert at knitting.  Claire and her husband Dick whom she met when she was alifeguard on the beach in Ocean Grove, owned and operated the Ocean Vista Hotel on Ocean Avenue in Ocean Grove.  She also taught economics at St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel.  A devout Roman Catholic, she was a communicant of the Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach.  She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard W. Hennig in 2006, by her sister Marilyn M. Coburn of Sea Girt in 2007 and by her son in law James J. Pentz in 2002.  Surviving are her daughter Karen E. Pentz of Shark River Hills, her son Dr. Richard W. Hennig, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Fenton, MI,  her “younger” twin brother James M. MacNee of Bloomfield, MI, her brother in law, George J. Coburn of Sea Girt, her most cherished grandchildren, Kathleen Hennig and Patrick Hennig of Fenton, MI, and Joseph James Pentz of Shark River Hills in whom she will leave her indelible imprints of love, wisdom and laughter, and her family of nieces and nephews, especially her dear niece Christine Coburn of New York City.  Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 7-9 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.  A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday March 14 at 11:00 AM at the Roman Catholic Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Avenue, Bradley Beach.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Special Olympics of New
Jersey, 3 Princess Road, Lawrence Township, NJ 08648 in honor of her beloved nephew Gerard Coburn, or to the Church of the Ascension in Claire’s memory would be appreciated.

Donna A. Council, 59, of Neptune, died Thursday March 8 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.  Born in San Bernardino, CA, she was a lifelong
resident of New Jersey.  She was predeceased by her husband Byron R. “Barn” Council in 2008, by her parents, Eric and Mary Heath Suttle, by her sister, Eddyeth A. Holcomb and by her brother, Robert Suttle.  Surviving are her son Jelani A. Council of Neptune, three daughters, Stephani Agolio and Danielle Agolio both of Asbury Park and Lateefah Council,  of Neptune, her brother, Eric Bolton Suttle of Jersey City, her sister, Pamela Suttle of Doraville, GA, nine grandchildren, Shaquashia Agolio, Destiny Fields, D’Onna Stout, Devin Stout, Karon Council, Corey Stout, Trinity Fields, Kennedy Fields, and Saadyia Jones, one great grandchild Jaaziya Jones and her lifelong friend CarolinaRuiz.  Viewing hours will be Saturday March 17 from 1-4 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove

Ruth E. Bray, 90, of Neptune, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at the MediCenter, Neptune City. Mrs. Bray was a homemaker. Nanny was well-known for her hand-knit baby sweaters. They were crafted with love and will be enjoyed by future generations of lucky little children. Since 1965, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Asbury Park, where she sang in the Choir, taught Sunday school and volunteered in countless ways. Born in Paterson, she lived in Hawthorne, NJ before moving to Neptune in 1965. She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Bray, in 1977; her granddaughter, Kristen Bray, in 1992; and by her dear friend, Dorothy Steckbeck of Tinton Falls, in 2011. Surviving are her son, George W. Bray and his wife, Cherie of Neptune; her daughter, Ruth Ann Bray of Midland Park; her granddaughter, Patricia Adams and her husband, Robert of Wall Township; and two great-grandchidren, Elyse and Grace Adams. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at the First Baptist Church, 508 Third Ave., Asbury Park.

Cheryl “Cheri” Mensel, 46, of Ocean Grove, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Cheri was born in Perth Amboy and lived most of her life in Old Bridge before moving to Ocean Grove 8 years ago. She attended Old Bridge Schools and was now attending the Easter Seals ATC in Belmar. Surviving are her loving parents, Richard and Julie with whom she lived; her loving brother, Rick of Ocean Grove; her loving sister, Christine and her husband Robert Revolinski of Arizona and her 3 loving nephews, Forrest, Jakob and Christopher of Arizona. Cheri was always a joy to be around and brought much happiness to all that knew her, especially to her parents, who referred to her as Our Girl and the Love of Our Lives. She loved watching TV, going to camp, attending her day program and trips to Atlantic City with her parents. Cheri will be deeply missed, and she is leaving a void in many lives. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Roman Catholic Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Avenue, Bradley Beach. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.
