Catherine “Kay” S. Seger passed away on October 24 in Palm Harbor, Florida.  Kay was born on September 5, 1923 in Bradley Beach, New Jersey to James and Jean Smith and graduated from Asbury Park High School.  Kay resided in Bradley Beach until her marriage to Oscar Franklyn Seger in 1940 at which time they moved to Sea Girt, New Jersey where she raised their four children.  Kay taught Sunday School at St. Uriel’s Episcopal Church in Sea Girt. Kay was predeceased by her parents, her brothers and sister, her husband Frank and her many dogs. Kay is survived by her children Oscar Franklyn Seger, Jr. (Judy) of Palm Harbor, FL,  Arthur A, Seger (Barbara) of Palm Coast, FL, Dian S. Young of Edgewater, MD and Kathryn Blake of Fort Smith, AR, her grandchildren Arthur Young of Richmond VA, Amanda K. Gregory of Wall NJ, Douglas Seger of FL and Katherine Seger of Cutoff, LA and her great grandson Tyler Franklyn Gregory and her nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Thursday October 27 at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls at 12:30 PM.   In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Monmouth County SPCA would be appreciated. The Ocean Grove Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Mary E. Wallwork of 1 Surf Avenue, Ocean Grove passed away peacefully at King Manor Nursing Home, Neptune, on Sunday, October 23, 2016, following a brief illness. Born September 16, 1932, Mary was the daughter of Ernest Wallwork Sr. and Irene Baldwin Wallwork, of Glen Ridge and Ocean Grove. Mary was an enthusiastic participant innumerous area organizations in and around Ocean Grove, including St Paul’s Church, the Salvation Army and the Neptune Township’s Senior Center. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, and eating in restaurants with her friends. Mary spent every summer of her 84 years in Ocean Grove, as did her parents, with whom she lived until their deaths. Mary was a year-round resident of Ocean Grove for the past 40 years. Mary leaves behind her brother, Dr. Ernest Wallwork, of Washington DC, a nephew, Adam Wallwork, of South Orange, NJ, and a niece, Dr. Rachel Wallwork of Boston, MA. Mary was developmentally disabled. The family is grateful to all those in Ocean Grove and vicinity who helped Mary during the seventeen years she was living independently in her own home after her mother’s death. Friends may call on Wednesday from 100 -2:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A short funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM

Helen J. Vermeulen (known as “Gigi” to her closest friends and family) passed away peacefully in her home on October 19, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.  Helen was born in 1929 to Stanley and Wanda Povey at Norwegian Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. She spent her childhood years in Brooklyn, NY where she was baptized at St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, and graduated from Midwood High School. In 1965, she was married to Edward J. Vermeulen, originally of Paterson, NJ, with whom she had three children Stephen (1966), Brenda (1967) and Richard (1969). From 1965 until 1979, Helen and her family resided in Palisades Park, NJ.  In 1979, the family relocated to Ocean Grove, NJ, where Helen and Ed opened, and for many years ran, a successful kitchen cabinet business “Kitchens by Vermeulen.” After Ed’s passing in 2000, Helen moved to North Carolina where she lived with her daughter (and loving care-taker) Brenda until her passing.  She is preceded in death by her father Stanley; her mother Wanda; her husband Edward and brother Bobby. Helen leaves behind several family members including her son, Stephen of Brick, NJ and his wife Denise, grandsons Caleb and Rondell, and granddaughters Amira and Khadija; daughter Brenda Lagnese of Angier, NC, and her husband Michael, granddaughter Amy and grandsons Mickey and Ben; son Richard of Manasquan, NJ, his and wife Colleen and granddaughter Helena, along with several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.  A memorial Mass will be offered on Friday Oct. 28 at 10:00 AM at Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach.

Emy Lou Snyder, 90, of Ocean Grove, died Wednesday October 5 at home.  She had worked as a secretary for the Neptune Township Housing Authority before retiring.  Mrs. Snyder was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Ocean Grove where she was a member of the Frances Stern and the Anne Forrester Circles.  She served on the Ocean Grove Citizens Patrol and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ocean Grove Auditorium Ushers.  She also actively attended the Neptune Senior Center, and worked for many years as a step guard at Ocean Grove Beaches. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Hudson Snyder in 1983, by her brother Howard Ruhle in 2006 and by her daughter Jeanne Snyder in 2009.  Surviving are her daughters, Merrill Megill and her husband Chip of Ocean Grove, and Lynn McGrath of Friendsville, TN and her grandchildren, Nicholas and Morgan Megill.  Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with interment following at the Grove Reformed Church Cemetery, North Bergen.  Those who wish may send flowers, or contributions to the ARC of Monmouth would be appreciated.

Richard Bruce Lepore, age 64, of Perrineville and Ocean Grove, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 25, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was pre deceased by his father, Alfred “Skippy” Lepore, his mother, Hazel Smith Lepore, of Avenel, NJ, his brother in law Dennis T. Quinlan, of Jamesburg, NJ. and his sister in law Sue Quinlan of Escondido, CA. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Quinlan Lepore, their son Christopher John Lepore, of Perrineville, NJ, his brother and sister in law, John and Donna Lepore, of Brick, NJ, his brother in law and sister in law Dr. Lee Richard Pargot and Arlene J. Pargot of Monroe, NJ, his sister in law Ellen Quinlan of Jamesburg, NJ and his brother in law Ronald Quinlan of Escondido, CA and was blessed with a loving and supportive family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, a great niece, and many cousins. He was also blessed by the love and support of many dear friends.Richard was born in Jersey City, NJ, and after the family moved, resided in Avenel, NJ. He graduated from Colonia Senior High School, in the Class of 1970, and married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Lee Quinlan, also of Avenel, in 1975. The couple celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary in September of 2015 with a trip to Ireland. Richard worked for KB Toys for 34 years, starting with the company when it had only 25 stores. He participated in its growth until it had 1100 stores, and held every store position from Assistant Manager through Manager, District Manager, and eventually Regional Vice President. Already having a family owned business on Main Avenue in Ocean Grove, NJ, “Gingerbreads”, when “Smugglers Cove” became available for sale, Rich saw this as an opportunity to continue to work in more of a retirement setting where he could be his own boss and work for himself. Shortly after establishing his business, Rich again found himself in a leadership role when he became President of the Ocean Grove Area Chamber of Commerce, a position he held until his death. Tragically, “Smugglers Cove” was lost in the devastating Main Avenue fire in February of 2015.Relatives and friends may call at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, on Sunday, August 28th, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Church of the Ascension, 501 Brinley Avenue, Bradley Beach, on Monday, August 29th, at 11 AM.
