Dr. Ludwig A. Brall, DDS, 91, of Ocean Grove died Tuesday, May 15. Dr. Brall was born in Patchogue, NY on September 8, 1926 and graduated Patchogue High School in 1944. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served as an Infantryman with the 40th Infantry Division in the Phillippine Islands during World War II, earning the rank of Sergeant. Then he served in the Army of Occupation in Korea for one year. He enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the School of Dentistry in 1952. Dr. Brall served as a First Lieutenant in the 71st Army Hospital in Berlin, Germany for two years. In 1955, he opened his dental office in Patchogue and practiced there until his retirement in 1984. Surviving is his son Martin Brall and his wife Kathy of Calverton, NY. Andrew J. “Andy” Wilson, of Interlaken died Tuesday May 15. Andy was born in Newark, to the late Caroline and Andrew Wilson. The family summered in Ocean Grove and became year round residents in 1939. In his boyhood days he enjoyed the beach, surf fishing, Boy Scout, camping, working at Howard Smith Hardware and being a Junior Fireman of the Washington Fire Company. Upon graduating from Neptune High School in 1945, he joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Arkansa. Following his discharge, thanks to the GI Bill of Rights, he graduated from Seton Hall University. He then went on to Forham Law School while working summers as a mailman in Ocean Grove, doing deliveries for Olin Street Market, putting time in at the hardware store, selling postcards and working at a title company in New York City after classes two nights a week. In addition her served on the Washington Fire Company and First Aid Squad. In 1951, he married his sweetheart and best friend, Muriel Smith. After graduation from law school and passing the Bar Exam in 1952, he was employed by James R. Laird, Esquire in Asbury Park. Soon after, the partnership of Laird and Wilson was formed and the opened and office in Ocean Grove. During his career, he served as an attorney for the Neptune Township Board of Education and the United Methodist Homes of New Jersey and was the municipal attorney in Interlaken and Neptune City for 17 years and several years in Neptune and Wall Township. Andy enjoyed fishing, boating, golf, traveled extensively and when he was forty he discovered the love of his life – skiing. He was a devoted grandfather and enjoyed taking his grandchildren to the beach, amusement parks and road trips and tried to get them to enjoy fishing and skiing as much as he did. Each grandchild was taken to Washington, DC for their twelfth birthday to help the appreciate their country. He was past president of the Asbury Park Rotary Club and a Paul Harris recipient. He loved the Jersey Shore, his profession and most of all, his family. He was a good and honorable man. Andy will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 66 years, Muriel, by his beloved daughters, Kathy Silvester of Vermont, Linda Fitzpatrick and her husband Tom and Peggy Wilson all of New Jersey. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Tom and Ryan Fitzpatrick, Emily Sprogis, Lindsey Estep and Patrick and Jacqueline Briody. Last but not least, are his five cherished great grandchildren, McKayla, Madison and Mila Fitzpatrick, and Juris Sprogis and Colin Estep. Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A private graveside service will be held at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, leave with fond memories of a good man.

Vivian A. Carr, 92, died peacefully at her Long Branch home on Sunday April 29. Vivian had a 40-year career in the electronic and telecommunications industry. President-Emeritus and Fellow of the Radio Club of America (RCA), Vivian was known for her work at Bell Telephone Labs, and most notably for her pioneering spirit and successfully breaking the glass ceilings at Bell labs, the IEEE, and RCA, as the first woman member and officer in those organizations. The annual RCA “Vivian Carr Award”, established in 2004, is given for “substantial contributions” made by women to the world of communications. She worked for, held officer positions in and received numerous recognitions from the aforementioned firms as well as AT&T. She was the first female Member and served on Board of Director of the NY Engineers Club. She was a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, IA, graduating with a degree in Engineering Economics in1973 and she graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981. Vivian was a steadfast advocate of animal rights. She was a member of the Long Branch Women’s Club, Breakwater Beach Club, and Deal Golf & County Club. She enjoyed gardening and bridge. Born in Orange, NJ on November 22, 1925, she lived in Maplewood and Ocean Grove before moving to Long Branch. She was predeceased by her husband John William Carr in 2002, and by her parents Pierre Laclare Alling and Katherine Vivian Haskard Alling. Surviving are her numerous friends, caregivers and grateful animals. William P. Walton, III, age 74, of Orient, Maine and formerly Ocean Township, NJ died April 28, 2018 in Bangor, ME. He had lived in Asbury Park and Ocean Township, NJ and in 2006, upon his retirement, he and his wife resided in the willy-wags of northern Maine, in the small town of Orient.  Born in Trenton, NJ, to William P. Walton Jr. and Mildred (née Stothart), Bill grew up in Asbury Park and graduated from Asbury Park High School, St. Lawrence University (B.S. 1965), Canton, NY, and the McAllister Institute of Funeral Service (1966), New York City. After his training Bill became a licensed funeral director. He owned and operated both the former Farry Memorial Home in Asbury Park and the Ocean Grove Memorial Home until he retired in 2005. He had been active as a member of several funeral directors’ associations.  Mr. Walton had been an active member of many social and community service organizations over the years. As a youth, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and was an awardee of the Silver Beaver Award. He belonged to the Rotary Club of Asbury Park and later the Rotary Club of Houlton. He was a member of The Wheelman Club of Asbury Park. He was formerly a member of the Asbury—Jordan Lodge No. 142, Free and Accepted Masons, Neptune, NJ and when he moved to Maine, he became a member of Monument Lodge No. 96, A.F. & A.M., Houlton, ME. He was a charter member of the Chiputneticook Lakes International Conservancy, Inc., a lake association headquartered in Orient, Maine. He was a director for many years for the Woodie Wheaton Land Trust in Forest City, ME and was also a member of the Aroostook Riders ATV Club. Bill had many interests and hobbies. He was a hunter, a bass and salmon fisherman and a moving target shooter. He was a champion of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, National Skeet Shooting Association, Wayside Skeet Club and the former Earle Shooter’s Club in New Jersey, and a member of the Presque Isle Fish and Game Association and of the Calais Rod & Gun Club in Maine. As a youth he practiced leathercrafts and later in life he became interested in designing, carving and painting cedar logs all with a wildlife motif. Bill was an avid Macintosh computer user. He built and maintained internet websites for his funeral home, the Woodie Wheaton Land Trust and his own website, www.ChipLakeNEWS.org. He also wrote a weekly electronic newsletter, the ChipLakeNEWS, from 2001 until his death. Bill was an avid life-long ice hockey fan and was an organizing founder of the former Jersey Shore Hockey League, Bricktown. He was a fan of Le (Bleu, Blanc et Rouge) Habitants and in the summer switched his interest to the Bronx Bombers. He also loved playing hearts and backgammon. With his daughter and son-in-law, he and his wife owned and operated the Million Dollar View Restaurant in Weston Maine for several years in the late 1990s. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, the former Heather (née Ferguson) a son, John David and his wife, Rachel (née Mizrahi) of Ocean, two daughters, Jill Plummer and her husband, Buck, of Brookton, Maine and Cynthia Lynne Vellinga and her husband, Chris, of Brick, NJ, two grandsons, Ben and Sam Plummer and two granddaughters, Victoria and Alexa Walton. An informal gathering to celebrate Bill’s life will be held 3:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton, ME. Friends may also call on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, NJ. Claude V. Allen, 93, of Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, died Tuesday April 17, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Allen was a Mechanical Engineer for the John Dusenbery Company in Randolph before retiring in 1992. He was an usher at the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, an usher and member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and the Ocean Grove Fishing Club. He enjoyed wood working, building and repairing clocks and doll houses and was the stained glass teacher at the Neptune Senior Center. Mr. Allen was a Staff Sargent serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II receiving the purple heart medal. Born in Richmond, VA, he lived in Tranquility, NJ for many years then moved Ocean Grove and eventually Seabrook Village where he resided for 18 years. He was predeceased by his first wife Marian H. Allen in 2000 and by his second wife Jane Reynolds Allen in 2001. Surviving are his fiancé Mary Ann Franke, his sons, Ronald K. Allen and his wife JoAnn of Cranford, and Bruce W. Allen and his wife Joy of Newton. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday April 22 from 4:00- 6:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 24 at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with burial following at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Joan Bender, 81, wife of Rev. Robert Bender, went home to be with her Lord on Easter Sunday April 1, 2018. Born on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1936 in Paterson, she was a graduate of Eastside High School. Joan worked as a medial secretary for Dr. Don Choi in Neptune for the last 20 years. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ocean Grove and formerly the Ramapo Reformed Church of Mahwah. Jean leaves behind her beloved husband of 59 years Robert, her son, Bruce Bender, her daughters and sons in law, Kimberly (Bender) and Charles O’Gorman and Laura (Bender) and Scott Gentiluomo. She is also survived by her sister, Margret Egedy and her five grandchildren, Joseph, Juliann and Darin Gentiluomo and Robert and Avery O’Gorman. Relatives and friends may visit on Friday, April 6 between 5:00 and 8:00 PM, with a funeral beginning at 8:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. The interment and a brief service will be Saturday April 7 at 11:30 AM at the Ramapo Reformed Church Cemetery, Mahwah.
