 After a wonderful life filled with writing, teaching, travel, and friends, Elizabeth McMenamin passed away surrounded by family on October 26, 2018 in Ocean Grove, New Jersey.Elizabeth was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1917 and baptized at the Cathedral of St. Peter. She was a lifelong communicant of the Roman Catholic Church. She studied piano at the Scranton Conservatory, painting at Marywood College, graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1934 and from Barnard College in 1938, with a B.A. in English literature.Elizabeth returned to Central High as an English teacher, but her true gift was writing. She wrote music reviews for the Scranton Tribune, commentary for The Catholic Light, the screenplay for Solitude, a feature film produced by the Diocese of Scranton, and radio plays for WGBI. After taking time off to start a family, Elizabeth wrote occasionally for the Asbury Park Press, the East Coast Angler and the Jackson News, which published her accounts of travels in France, Italy and Spain, and her 1984 tour of China as a guest of the Chinese government. Elizabeth cherished the memories of her days at Barnard College. She attended her seventy fifth class reunion in 2013, contributed her short story Dust to Barnard’s literary magazine, Echoes, in 2016, represented her class at convocation in 2016 and 2017 and attended the inauguration of Barnard’s president in 2018.  She was a member of MENSA, who liked to recite the prologue to Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales in Middle English—just for fun.  She enjoyed reading, writing, and praying, but she loved her family—especially her grandchildren—most of all. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Hugh A. McMenamin. She is survived by her six children, Stephen, Brigid, Margaret, Catherine, Peter, and Anna Regina; her four grandchildren, Leith, Hugo, Robert, and Amy Jean; and her two great-grandchildren, Summer Moon and Ember Star; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Elizabeth’s friends are invited to celebrate her life at two viewings. The first will be on Thursday, November 1, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove, New Jersey. The second viewing will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00M PM on Friday, November 2, at Eugene A. Cusick Funeral Home, 217 Jefferson Avenue, Scranton, Pennsylvania. On Saturday, November 3, there will be a 9:00 AM funeral mass at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 315 Wyoming Avenue, followed by burial at Cathedral Cemetery, 1708 Oram Street.

Josiah Eli Robert Brown, 6 months, was received by the Lord Jesus on Friday October 26, 2018. He was born April 20, 2018. Surviving are his parents, Marcel and Amy Trouwborst Brown, three sisters, Rayne and Autumn Trouwborst and Adeline Brown, his grandparents, Ted and Barbara Trouwborst and Robert and Denise Brown and his beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Josiah was pre-deceased by his brother and sister Joab and Cadence in 2010. Relatives and Friends may call on Thursday November 1 from 3:00 PM - 5:00pm with funeral services beginning at 5:00 PM at the Grace Bible Church, 4041 Squankum - Allenwood Road Wall Township. Interment will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson

Lucille Ann Tallman passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at JSUMC surrounded by family. Lucille was born in Neptune on May 19. 1938, the daughter of Nicholas and Virginia Marciano. She grew up in Neptune and graduated from Neptune High School in 1956 and from Kean University with a degree in education in 1972. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Tallman, her three sons: Joseph, Nicholas, and Christopher; and her three grandchildren: Alexander, Madeline, and Nicholas. She is predeceased by her love, Donald Melton. Lucille worked for the Brotherhood of Railroad and Airline Clerks (BRAC) from 1972 to 1975 in order to assist both her husband and her father with union related activities; with the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce from 1979-1982; and with MetLife from 1982-1994. Lucille was proud of her Italian heritage and was devoted to family and faith. She was a member of the Catholic Daughter’s Association, Court Ascension Church. She was also an assistant secretary/treasurer and member with Our Lady of Mount Carmel Lodge and very active with the Special Olympics. Her greatest pride was her grandchildren: Alexander and Madeline (with whom she lived the last fifteen years of her life) and Nicholas. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at Ascension Roman Catholic Church in Bradley Beach at 10 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2018. Repass to follow at Neptune City Firehouse. Helene M. Schroeder (Marge), age 89, died peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in Ocean Grove, NJ. She was born on March 15, 1929 in Jersey City, NJ to Henry and Helen Knueppel. She graduated from A.I. Demarest High school in Hoboken where she met her husband to be, Albert Schroeder. Helene worked for the Perth Amboy and Parlin YMCAs and then the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s office for 25 years. Helene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Albert Schroeder; her son in law Albert McNamara and her beloved dog Wain. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Schroeder, son and daughter in law Brian and Eva Marie Schroeder, beloved granddaughter Emily Schroeder and adopted nieces Doreen and Joyce Bouille. Helene’s sense of humor and easy laughter was a gift to all who knew her. She was a life-long art student, loved painting and was a member of the Art Society of Monmouth County. As a Master Gardener with the Rutgers Monmouth County Master Gardeners Program, she delighted in volunteering her time at their various events. Visitors are welcome Thursday, October 18th from 4 to 7 pm at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday at 10 am at Saint Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 186 Gordons Corner Road, Manalapan, with burial following at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rutgers Monmouth County Master Gardner’s Program would be appreciated.

John Francis “Skeet” Abel III, 73 of Neptune City, died at home on Monday September 24, 2018 surrounded by family.  He was born in Long Branch on June 3, 1945, the son of John F. Abel II and Grace Geschke Abel. He worked with his father at Abel’s Tree Experts, a family business and went on to become a skilled blacksmith and farrier. He was also a home renovator and longtime landlord.  John had a love of adventure and travel and once rode his motorcycle 18,000 miles through Europe.  He was a long time resident of Neptune City.  Surviving are his wife,  Carol VanFossen-Abel, his daughter Tara de Wet, his stepson Bob DeFiglio, his stepdaughter Christin Smith,  6 grandchildren, his sister Bonnie Walker and two brothers Douglas and Aaron Abel.  Relatives and friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. 

Irmgard Weichselbaum, 89, of Ocean Grove, died August 13, 2018. Mrs. Weichselbaum was a secretary for the Deutschewerft Ship Building Yard, Hamburg Germany. Later she was a lab technician for Centra State Medical Center, Freehold. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree from Rutgers University. She was a member of the Jackson Garden Club, the Master Garden Club of New Jersey and the local chapter of the Deborah Heart and Lung Center. Born in Hamburg, Germany, she lived there, then in Jackson Township before moving to Ocean Grove in 2016. She was predeceased by her husband Joel Weichselbaum in 2009 and by her daughter Angelika Heitmann. She is survived by Angelika’s children Anna and Felix, her daughter Cindy Knapp and husband Kenny Knapp, as well as their children Kyle and Jessy, her son John Rerup and his wife Jane Rerup and her daughter’s Shannon, Jennifer and Brittney, and their children Michael, Christopher, Charlotte and Penelope. A memorial service will be held on Sunday September 9, 2018 at 12 Noon at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. In lieu of flowers, donation to The Deborah Heart and Lung Center would be appreciated.

Albert Francis McNamara of Ocean Grove, aged 73, died Thursday at home, surrounded by family. Al was born in Brooklyn in 1944 and raised in St. Gregory’s parish in the shadow of Ebbets Field. He attended Boys’ High School before entering the U.S. Army, where he served in the infantry from 1963 to 1965. He later was employed by Morgan Guarantee Trust Company before working three decades in the field of addiction treatment, through which he will be remembered by many colleagues and patients. After retirement, he worked summers at the Ocean Grove beach. Al will be remembered for his wit, knowledge of trivia, and his love for the ocean, soccer, movies and poetry. He is survived by his wife, Karen Schroeder, his son Ken McNamara of Newark, daughter Michelle Zurawski of Brick, grandchildren Tiana and Johnny Zurawski, former wife Patricia McNamara (nee Darcy), his brother Thomas and wife Janet, and his beloved dog, Rosie. He is predeceased by his father Albert, mother Agnes (nee Grimes), and Aunt Alice Grimes, all originally of Glasgow, Scotland. A part of the Ocean Grove community for more than 30 years, Al will be remembered by many as a good friend and for his deep commitment to social and economic justice. Visitors are welcome Tuesday, May 29th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove.
