Margaret Snyder

Margaret (Maggie) Snyder blessed all of us with her presence on this earth for over 92 years. She was welcomed into heaven on November 21st, 2018 by her loving husband Herbert on what would have been his 109th birthday. Waiting for her were her sons Herb and Ron. Maggie is survived by so many who loved her, including her daughter Kathryn and her husband Michael, and her sons Geoff and his wife, Kathleen, Ken and his wife Mary, and Gary, and over a dozen grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was also surrounded by wonderful friends who never stopped giving their support. Maggie was born in England.  She became a nurse midwife, and held tight to the photo of the first baby she delivered.  She came to the United States as an exchange nurse in 1952 where she met her husband Herb.  She worked most of her career at East Orange General, retiring after more than 30 years as a nurse. After retiring, Maggie moved to Ocean Grove, New Jersey.  She enjoyed overlooking the ocean, walking throughout the town, and fully appreciated the area. She was a congragant of St Paul’s church. Her friends dedicated a bench to her in Ocean Grove.  When you are on the boardwalk and come across it, sit, enjoy the view and have a cup of tea for Maggie.  Maggie received a presidential commendation for her volunteer work.  She was especially fulfilled by working at Head Start, The Senior Center and Francis Asbury Manor, but the list of places and hours served are too many to count.  When she wasn’t helping in the community, she was an avid Scrabble player, and was known to even do difficult crossword puzzles in pen.  She explored the world, with favorite trips to Malta and South America to visit the penguins, or “penguinies” as she called them.  Maggie exemplified the hymn “They’ll Know We Are Christians By Our Love”. Following her wishes, there will not be a funeral at this time, but there will be a celebration of her life in the upcoming weeks. To honor Maggie, you don’t need to send flowers or give a donation in her name.  Rather, you can love and accept all people unconditionally.  Serve your community.  Meet the needs of strangers.  Spread warmth and caring wherever you go.  And have a cup of tea.
